What's the problem with half truths
What it a half truth? It is a statement that is partially true and partially not - but the latter part is not spoken and people gloss over and therefore enter a suboptimal path.
Why do we tend to focus on the part that seems correct while neglecting the other half?
Why is this harmful, considering that half of it is actually false?
Take the example of calcium in milk - a controversial topic ( like ALL half truth topics) for the Dairy supporters amongst us
You might remember the 'Got Milk' slogan, implying that drinking milk gives you calcium for strong bones.
While it's true that milk contains calcium it lets you think that therefore it must be good for bones. This, unfortunately is not so !
In fact, evidence suggests the opposite is true.
Calcium is drawn from bones through various mechanisms.
For instance, in the US, where there's high dairy consumption, the rate of osteoporosis is higher compared to countries with lower dairy intake.
It's a classic case of a half-truth. Just think about it !
🔑 Here are 3 Tips for future:
Question information that seems to imply something that is not being mentioned.
Research and verify facts before and get curious.
Look for the complete picture, reconcile with what is unspoken and why
"The danger of half-truths lies in the part that remains untold, often hiding important details that can change the whole story."
